Second-ranked Hawks in the lead after Rd. 1 of Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot a 5-over-par 293 in the opening round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Monday.

Entering Tuesday's final round, the Hawks lead the 16-team tournament by three strokes. Emory is second with an 8-over 296 and Wittenberg University is third with an 11-over 299. The Huntingdon B-Team is ninth with a 313.

Sophomore Drew Mathers led the varsity Hawks with a 2-under 70 and is in second place. Mathers' 70 tied his best collegiate round. Emory's Stafano Butti turned in the low round on Monday with a 3-under 69.

Behind Mathers, junior Mark Connelly shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for sixth and junior Stephen Shephard shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 11th. Junior Henry Gee shot 4-over 76 and is tied for 19th and senior Jon Colten Stanaland shot 82.

Junior Joaquin Trigueros led the B-Team with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 11th and freshman Thomas Gerard shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 19th.

Sophomore Alex Aulerich shot 81, junior Wyatt Adkison shot 82 and freshman Ben Harris shot 86.

Playing as individuals, senior Wesley Etheredge shot 80 and junior Sterling Dixon shot 86.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
