Hawks in third after Rd. 1 of USA South Tournament

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 7-over-par 295 in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday.

Entering Friday's second round at Highland Country Club, the Hawks are third in the nine-team field. Methodist leads the tournament with a 1-over 289 and North Carolina Wesleyan is second with a 6-over 294. Maryville and LaGrange are tied for fourth at 14-over 302.

North Carolina Wesleyan's Grady Anderson turned in the best round on Thursday with a 4-under 68.

Huntingdon junior Stephen Shephard is four strokes off the lead and tied for fifth with an even-par 72. Senior Jon Colten Stanaland and sophomore Drew Mathers each shot 2-over 74 and are tied for 13th. Junior Henry Gee shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 16th and junior Mark Connelly shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 21st.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in Round 2 of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
