Huntingdon tied for 1st entering final round of Rhodes Fall Classic

TUNICA, Miss. – Senior Henry Gee turned in the best two rounds of his Huntingdon career and the men's golf team matched its second best 36-hole total of the NCAA era on Sunday in the first two rounds of the Rhodes Fall Classic.                                      

Entering Monday's final round at Tunica National Golf Resort, the third-ranked Hawks are tied for first in the field of 20 teams and Gee is second in the field of 104 golfers.

Gee shot what was his best round as a Hawk with a 4-under 68 in the first round before following up with a 5-under 67 in the second round. His 9-under-par 135 is two strokes off the Hawks' NCAA-era record of 133 set by Addison Lambeth during the 2015-16 season.

As a team, Huntingdon shot 5-under 283 in the opening round and 6-under 282 in the second round. The 11-under 565 is tied for the second best two-round total by the Hawks during the NCAA era.

Tied with the Hawks for first is the University of Texas-Tyler. In third-place, 25th-ranked LaGrange is eight strokes back at 3-under 573 and 15th-ranked Rhodes is fourth at 2-under 574.

Texas-Tyler's Tyler Uhlig turned in the best two-round total on Sunday and is one stroke ahead of Gee with a 10-under 134.

Behind Gee, two other Hawks are in the top-eight entering the final round. Sophomore Ben Harris, playing as an individual, is tied for fifth with a 4-under 140 and junior Drew Mathers is tied for eighth with a 3-under 141.

Harris shot a 1-over 73 in the opening round before following up with his best collegiate round, a 5-under 67, in the second round. Mathers matched his best collegiate round with a 2-under 70 in the first round and shot a 1-under 71 in the second round.

Senior Stephen Shephard shot a 1-over 145 and is tied for 28th. Shephard shot a 1-over 73 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second round.

One stroke behind Shephard, freshman Carson Whitton and senior Wyatt Adkison are tied for 31st at 2-over 146. Whitton shot a 2-over 74 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second round. Adkison shot an even-par 72 in the opening round and a 2-over 74 in the second round.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Rhodes Fall Classic on Monday.
