Mathers and Whitton named USA South Golf Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon junior Drew Mathers and freshman Carson Whitton were both recognized with the release of the USA South Golfers of the Week on Wednesday.

The two Hawks were recognized for their performance in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate. Mathers earned medalist honors with a 2-under-par 142 and Whitton tied for second with a 1-under 143. Mathers shot a 1-over 73 in the first round and a 3-under 69 in the second round to win at Wynlakes for a second straight year. Whitton shot a 1-over 73 in the opening round and a 2-under 70 in the final round.

The win was Mathers' second of the season and the third of his Huntingdon career. In his past four tournaments, Mathers has two wins and two second-place finishes. Through 21 rounds this season, Mathers is averaging 71.43 strokes per round and has 15 rounds of par or better.

Whitton's tie for second is his best finish as a freshman. In 18 varsity and B-team rounds this season, Whitton is averaging 73.11 strokes per round.
