Schreyer named South Region Coach of the Year

NORMAN, Okla.  – Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer was recently named the Golf Coaches Association of America's Division III South Region Coach of the Year.

The GCAA announced the National and Regional Coach of the Year winners for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA Division I and Division II.

This is the fourth time in the past five seasons Schreyer has been named Region Coach of the Year. Schreyer also received the recognition in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

During this year's shortened season, the Hawks finished ranked No. 2 in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Division III Poll and the Golfstat Division Top-25 poll. In six events during the fall and spring, Huntingdon placed third or better five times with one win, three second-place finishes and one third-place finish.

The team's scoring average of 285.65 in 17 rounds was on pace to break the program's NCAA-era season record of 288.61 per round. The 288.61 was set last season in 31 rounds. The team also turned in two of the program's top-three single round performances during the NCAA era, the best round versus par of the NCAA era, three of the top four two-round totals of the NCAA era and the Hawks' best three-round total of the NCAA era.

In seven full seasons at Huntingdon, Schreyer's program has produced a Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year, four Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year finalists, 14 All-American selections, 16 All-Region selections, 19 All-Conference selections, two conference Golfers of the Year, two conference Rookies of the Year, 13 All-American Scholars and 51 Academic All-Conference selections.
