Mathers four strokes out of 1st entering final round of Alabama State Amateur

OPELIKA, Ala. – Former Huntingdon golfer Drew Mathers shot a 4-under-par 68 on Friday to remain near the top of the leaderboard in the third round of the Alabama State Amateur Championship.

Mathers, who was tied for the lead after two rounds, is four strokes out of first and in second with a 13-under 203 entering Saturday's final round at Saugahatchee Country Club. Mathers shot 3-under 69 in Round 1 and 6-under 66 in the second round.

Birmingham's Gordon Sargent leads the tournament with a 17-under 199. Sargent, who matched Mathers with a 3-under 69 and a 6-under 66 in the first two rounds, shot 8-under 64 on Friday.
