Huntingdon in 5th with 27 holes to play in USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team is in fifth with one round completed and the second round underway in the  USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

Due to the weather forecast for Saturday, the conference is plying the three-round tournament in two days instead of three. The nine-team tournament features seven nationally ranked teams.

Third-ranked Huntingdon shot 326 in the opening round and was 13 strokes out of first at the completion of 18 holes. Nineteenth-ranked Averett shot 313 in the opening round to lead the field. Thirteenth-ranked Greensboro and sixth-ranked Piedmont were tied for second at 314.

Nine holes into the second round, Piedmont has moved to first at 29-over-par, second-ranked Methodist is second at 34-over, Greensboro and Averett are tied for third at 41-over and Huntingdon is fifth at 43-over.

With nine holes remaining in the second round, Huntingdon's Owen Burt is tied for third at 7-over. Burt shot 6-over 78 in the first round. Pfeiffer's Kevin Burris leads the field at 2-under. Burris shot 1-under 71 in the opening round. Piedmont's Ben Balen is second at 5-over.

Behind Burt, Carson Whitton, Grant Gronka and Peter Meilunas are tied for 20th at 12-over. Meilunas shot 10-over 82 in the first round and Whitton and Gronka each shot 11-over 83 in the opening round. John Gaal is tied for 32nd at 17-over. He shot 86 in the first round.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play the final 27 holes of the USA South Conference Tournament on Friday.
