Huntingdon finishes 5th in NCAA Tournament
WHEELING, W.V. – The Huntingdon men's golf team closed the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship with an 8-over-par 292 on Friday.
The third-ranked Hawks finished fifth with a 54-over 1186. During the past five NCAA Tournaments, Huntingdon has finished in the top-five four times.
Sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan shot 23-over 1155 to win its second straight national title. Top-ranked Methodist placed second at 36-over 1168 and second-ranked Guilford was third at 47-over 1179.
Huntingdon's 1186 is the program's fourth best four-round total during the NCAA era and the program's eighth best four-round performance versus par during the NCAA era.
Two Huntingdon golfers finished in the top-15. Grant Gronka shot 3-over 74 in the final round and finished 11th with an 11-over 294. Carson Whitton shot 3-over 74 in the final round and tied for 15th with a 13-over 296.
Walker Hinds turned in the Hawks' best round on Friday with an even-par 71. Hinds tied for 23rd with a 14-over 297. Owen Burt shot 2-over 73 in the final round and tied for 40th with a 19-over 302. Peter Meilunas shot 3-over 74 in the final round and tied for 71st with a 26-over 309.
Webster's Will Hocker earned medalist honors with a 2-over 285.
