Four Hawks named GCAA All-Region

NORMAN, Okla. – Four Huntingdon Hawks were among those recognized with the release of the Golf Coaches Association of America's PING All-Region teams.

Owen Burt, Grant Gronka, Walker Hinds and Carson Whitton were named to the South Region team. All-Region teams were selected for six regions.

This is the second straight season Burt and Whitton have been recognized with All-Region honors and the first All-Region recognition for Gronka and Hinds.

The four Hawks helped lead Huntingdon to another successful season. Huntingdon was ranked as high as second and finished fifth in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

In seven events this season, Huntingdon finished in the top-seven in every tournament, the top-five in all but one tournament and second in five tournaments. The team's scoring average of 295.35 in 20 rounds ranks sixth for the Hawks during NCAA-era.

Burt averaged 73.50 in 20 rounds, shot six rounds of par or better, including a season-best 3-under-par 69 in the Savannah Invitational. Burt had four top-10 finishes, including tying for third in the Savannah Invitational and placing third in the conference tournament.

Whitton averaged 75.30 in 20 rounds with three rounds of par or better, including a season-best 2-under 70 in the Savannah Invitational and in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. He had one top-10 finish in the Tiger Invite and finished in the top-15 three times.

Gronka averaged 74.11 in nine rounds with three rounds of par or better, including a season-best 1-under 71 in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate and an even-par 71 in the national tournament. He finished in the top-11 in all three tournaments he competed in, including a fifth-place finish in the conference tournament.

Hinds averaged 73.82 in 17 rounds with seven rounds of par or better, including a season-best 3-under 69 in the Savannah Invitational and in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. He had three top-10 finishes, including finishing seventh in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational and the Golfweek DIII Invitational.

A total of 12 golfers from the USA South Athletic Conference earned All-Region honors.
