Hawks Qualify For NCAA National Tournament For Eighth Consecutive Season

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- For the eighth season in a row, Huntingdon men's golf has qualified for the NCAA DIII National Tournament.

The championships, which will be held May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club, in Boulder  City, Nevada and will be hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.  The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of  the last fully completed round. Forty-three teams and six individuals not on one of those teams will be selected to participate in the championships. After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut  to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

A total of 221 participants will compete at the 2024 championships. Thirty-four conferences  were awarded an automatic qualification for the championships. One team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final eight berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams. The six individuals are selected from the remaining players who have not qualified with a team.

The Hawks enter the tournament led by recently-announced CCS Golfer of the Year Jack Burr, who currently sits as the #8 ranked golfer in all of Division III. He is joined in the national ranks by Zackery Coker, Stephen Baker, and Cole Humphrey, who each hold top 60 ranks themselves.

"It was good to see some success this Spring", Burr shared. "But we know the ultimate goal is to prove ourselves in Las Vegas. We're very excited to compete and represent Huntingdon College".

Head coach Dave Schreyer on the Hawks season this far and what it means to be selected to the tournament:

'Well we are headed to our eighth straight NCAA championship. I am so excited for this resiliant group. We leaned into them and asked them to give a little more this spring, and like the thoroughbreds they are, they elevated their games to five individual titles and three team wins. What a great performance. I have to thank my assistant, Carson Whitton, for his tireless contribution to the team, as well as our mental coach Josh Nichols. This team is so deep we rarely traveled with the same team two weeks in a row. Hats off to all of the Hawks who contributed to this amazing season."
