Hawks Comeback Falls Short Against Hendrix

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon men's lacrosse (2-4 overall) was defeated by the Hendrix Warriors 16-8 in a home matchup. The Hawks fell behind early, but mounted a huge third quarter comeback to get within striking distance before falling short.

 

How it happened

 

First quarter

  • Hendrix jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by the 13:15 mark

  • Kelcey Marston fought through multiple Warrior defenders to score the Hawks first goal of the day at the 10:09 mark

  • Gage Kettlewell responded to a Hendrix goal with his 25th of the season, bringing the score to 3-2 by the 4:34 mark

  • Hendrix scored 3 unanswered goals to hold a 6-2 lead entering the second quarter

 

Second quarter

  • Hendrix opened the quarter with 3 unanswered goals to extend their lead to 9-2 by the 7:35 mark

  • Connor Angst stopped the bleeding at the 2:19 mark with a goal of his own to put the Hawks behind 9-3 entering the second half

 

Third quarter

  • Brady Moulton got the Hawks on the board to start the second half with a goal at the 8:55 mark assisted by Caden Bacz

  • Still battling, Kelcey Marston and Gage Kettlewell each followed Moulton with goals of their own, cutting the lead to 9-6 by the 4:03 mark

  • Kettlewell put in another goal at 1:20 mark to put the Hawks within two, 9-7.

  • Hendrix scored a goal in the final 10 seconds to hold a 10-7 lead entering the final period.

  • For the first time in his career, JT Klam subbed into the goalkeeper position for the Hawks at the 11:25 mark, recording 5 saves in the period to anchor the Hawks defense

 

Fourth quarter

  • Hendrix opened the quarter with a goal, but Gage Kettlewell quickly responded, maintaining the deficit at 11-8 by the 7:35 mark

  • Hendrix closed the game with 5 unanswered goals, and the Hawks ran out of time to answer, falling 16-8
