Hawks Drop Home Contest With LaGrange

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In a matchup with the LaGrange Panthers(5-7 overall, 1-2 USA South), Huntingdon men's lacrosse(3-8 overall, 1-2 CCS) fell 22-9. Throughout the night, the Panthers defense stifled the Huntingdon offense, forcing turnovers that they converted into high-quality shot attempts on the other end of the field.

 

How it happened

 

First quarter

  • Following a LaGrange goal within the first minute of the game, Tristan Dial put in a shot of his own at the 12:31 mark to even the score at 1.

  • The Panthers followed the goal from Dial with five consecutive scores to hold a 6-1 lead with 7:15 remaining in the quarter

  • Connor Angst stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 6:50 mark off an assist from Gage Kettlewell to put the Hawks behind 6-2

  • LaGrange would score again with 1:21 to go in the period, but Landen Conrad managed to put in a shot within the final 25 seconds of the quarter to bring the deficit to 7-3 entering the second quarter

Second quarter

  • After three scoreless minutes to open the quarter, Jack Young was able to put in his first goal of the season at the 12:23 mark to cut the lead to 7-4

  • In response, the Panthers went on an offensive tear, scoring six unanswered goals to close the first half holding on to a 13-4 lead

Third quarter

  • Picking up where they left off in the first half, LaGrange scored their first goal of the half at the 11:48 mark to bring their lead to 14-4

  • The Hawks kept battling, with Kelcey Marston scoring his first goal of the night with 11:21 remaining in the quarter to put the Hawks down 14-5

  • Following two goals from the Panthers, Connor Angst scored his second goal of the night at the 9:32 mark to bring the score to 16-6

  • To close the quarter, the Panthers would outscore Huntingdon 3-1, with the Hawks lone goal coming from Gage Kettlewell at the 6:06 mark, to put the Hawks behind 19-7 entering the final quarter of play

Fourth quarter

  • LaGrange opened the quarter with a goal at the 12:37 mark to extend their lead to 20-7, but Gage Kettlewell responded at the 8:18 mark to make the score 20-8

  • To end the game, LaGrange would put in two more shots to hold a 22-8 lead, but a goal from Landen Conrad brought the score to 22-9 in the final 15 seconds, handing the Hawks their second conference loss of the season.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 30th, on the road at Pfeiffer. Gametime is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
