Hendrix Outlasts The Hawks

CONWAY, Ark.- Returning to action for the first time since their loss to the Centenary College Gents at home, Huntingdon men's lacrosse hit the road for another non-conference duel with the Hendrix College Warriors.

In a game largely dictated by the performance's each squad's goalkeeper, the Hawks were outscored 7-4 in the fourth quarter, falling 11-8 in a low-scoring affair.

How it happened

The Warriors struck first to open the game, putting a shot past Liam Angst at the 12:28 mark to take the lead early, 1-0. Huntingdon's Kelcey Marston responded just a minute later before a goal from Tristan Dial with 5 and a half minutes remaining in the quarter put the Hawks in front 2-1. Mason Honeycutt followed with a goal just 10 seconds later to bring the lead to 3-1 entering the second quarter.

The two lone goals of the second quarter belonged to Hendrix, allowing the Warriors to tie things at 3 entering halftime.

The third quarter was dictated by dry spells offensively on both sides of the field. Liam Angst served as the anchor for Huntingdon's defense, recording 6 saves through the first 8 minutes to keep the Warriors off the board. Jaxon Mcmonigle finally broke the ice at the 4:42 mark with a goal off an assist from Marston to put the Hawks back in front, 4-3. Hendrix scored within the final minute of the period to bring the score even at 4 as the fourth quarter got underway.

After a quiet third quarter offensively for both teams, Hendrix scored two goals inside the first 4 minutes to reclaim the lead 6-4. Kelcey Marston scored his second goal of the game at the 11:07 mark to stop the bleeding before Hendrix cashed in again to maintain their lead, 7-5 with 10 minutes remaining.

Marston continued to lead the Hawks offensive attack, scoring his third goal of the afternoon at the 7:49 mark to cut the Warriors lead to 7-6, but Hendrix responded yet again at the 7:26 mark to maintain their two-goal lead.

Huntingdon finally put together a run with 7 minutes remaining, with Josh Knost and Connor Angst each scoring to even things at 8 by the 5:18 mark. After tying things, the Hawks couldn't keep their rhythm, as Hendrix scored three unanswered goals to walk away with an 11-8 victory.
