Last Second Goal Pushes William Peace Past The Hawks

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Looking to build off of their 14-4 home victory in their conference opener against Brevard, Huntingdon men's lacrosse welcomed William Peace University to Samford Stadium.

The Hawks fell behind in the first half 5-2, and despite strong comeback efforts led by Connor Angst and Jaxon Mcmonigle, Huntingdon couldn't overcome the early deficit, taking a 9-8 loss at the hands of the Pacers.

How it Happened

William Peace shot of the gates to take a 3-1 lead following the first quarter of play. Josh Knost put in a goal at the 11:38 mark to answer the first goal of the game from the Pacers, but William Peace managed to hold Huntingdon scoreless throughout the rest of the period, tacking on two more goals before the start of the second quarter.

The Hawks struck first in the second quarter following five scoreless minutes at the 9:24 mark., as Connor Angst cashed in off an assist from Kelcey Marston to cut the deficit to 3-2. William Peace responded with back-to-back goals as the half drew near to put the Huntingdon down 5-2 at the halftime break.

The Pacers started the second half hot as well, putting in back-to-back goals as their lead grew to as much as 7-2 with 7 minutes remaining in the quarter. Kelcey Marston's goal at the 1:26 mark stopped the bleeding before Jaxon Mcmonigle cashed in to cut the lead to 7-4 entering the final quarter.

Huntingdon continued to battle as the final quarter got underway, with JT Klam and Mcmonigle each finding their way past the goalkeeper as the Hawks cut William Peace's lead to 7-6 with 11 minutes to go. William Peace momentarily stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 6:20 mark, but Connor Angst put in shots on consecutive possessions to even the score at 8 with 1:42 to go. In the final 10 seconds of the game, William Peace found a way to score, and Huntingdon couldn't respond, falling 9-8.

Liam Angst moved to 2-3 on the season in the goal playing 59 minutes and 21 seconds of the game, recording 13 saves while allowing 7 goals. Kade Bankovich also saw time in the goal, surrendering two goals.
