Huntingdon comes up short in men's soccer season opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 loss against in-state rival Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday night.

Freshman Tyler DeJianne scored the Hawks' lone goal in the 10th minute. DeJianne finished with two shots and one goal.

The Panthers scored the first goal of the game on a free kick, in the eighth minute of the game, and scored their second goal in the 39th minute off a free kick.

Huntingdon had several opportunities late in the game but couldn't find the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Brown recorded two saves and allowed two goals.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday and Sunday in the four-team Huntingdon Tournament. Huntingdon plays Hendrix at 3 p.m. on Saturday. LaGrange and Spalding will play in the first game of the day at 1 p.m.
