Men’s Soccer Opens Season with Win over MUW

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon Men's Soccer (1-0) took down the Owls of Mississippi University for Women (0-1) with a late first half goal.

Goalie Braden Ross earns his first win of the season after a tough earned five saves on the night.

A quick shot by Sy Garrett started the game but was just wide. Ross snagged a shot by the Owls in the 16th minute to record his first save of the game. In the rain, both teams were trading shots and it looked as if at halftime the score would remain tied at zero, but after a corner kick from MUW, the Hawks took the ball and ran. Tate Reynolds led the way pushing it up the right field line with less than a minute remaining. Varian Carty followed midfield and gained the lead on Reynolds. With three seconds remaining, Reynolds tapped the ball to Carty for the Hawks first goal of the season and to head to halftime up 1-0.

The entire second period was a brawl as the Owls looked to tie the game and the Hawks looked to further their lead. Ross continued to work in the net for the Hawks and offensively a shot from sophomore, John McKee barely missed the goal high.

Huntingdon defended Samford Soccer Complex until the time ran out to kick off the 2023 season.
