Hawks Ranked 7th In 2024 CCS Preseason Poll
ATLANTA, GA - In the conference's 2024 men's soccer preseason poll, the Huntingdon Hawks were ranked to finish 7th in the league as determined by a vote of the league's seven head coaches.
With 36 points and six first-place votes, Covenant has earned their position as the frontrunner, marking the third consecutive year they have topped the preseason poll. Last season, the Scots captured the 2023 conference title with a 2-0 victory over Belhaven, finishing with an impressive overall record of 10-5-3 and a 4-2-0 mark in CCS play. Their success was further highlighted by two players earning spots on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's All-Region VI team.
The Hawks, coming off a 3-9-3 season, have revitalized their roster, boasting 12 freshmen alongside three transfers as they enter the 2024 season. The Hawks look to the leadership of seniors Sy Garrett, Varian Carty, Braden Ross, and Carter Wysong to steady the team throughout their 2024 campaign.
"We are excited for the season to start this weekend," shared head coach Matt Cooper. "We have a large roster this year with a lot of talent and depth. There has been a lot of competition in these early practices and it has been pushing everyone to perform at a high level and get better. The Pre-season has been good, scoring goals and not conceding any is always nice. Hopefully we can continue that into the regular season. With a very solid returning group and a lot of talent in the incoming class we have high hopes this season. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are confident of much more success this season with this group."
The 2024 CCS men's soccer conference play begins on Saturday, September 28. The CCS Men's Soccer Championship Tournament starts with the Top 6 teams on Wednesday, October 30, and the championship game is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, hosted by the highest-seeded team.
