Hawks Fall To Point University In Home Opener

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In the first home game of the season, Huntingdon men's soccer(1-2 overall) was taken down by the Point University Skyhawks(3-0-1 overall) by a score of 2-0.

Through the first 20 minutes of the match the two teams found themselves in a defensive battle, with Huntingdon goalkeeper Braden Ross putting a stop to the Skyhawks two shot attempts on the goal and Point's keeper returning the favor on a shot attempt from Varian Carty. Point broke the ice on a penalty kick at the 22:24 mark, giving themselves the lead they would hold on to throughout the rest of the half.

The Hawks tried to battle back as the first half went on, but could not get a shot past the Skyhawks keeper. As a result, Huntingdon entered halftime facing a 1-0 deficit.

Point managed to whip a shot past Lundon Danford inside the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a 2-0 lead and victory. Huntingdon's offense never found their footing as they second half wore on, and the Hawks could not generate enough momentum to create a comeback.

The Hawks return to the Samford Soccer Complex on Tuesday, September 10th, to face off with the Millsaps Majors. Gametime is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
