Late Free Kick Pushes Piedmont Past The Hawks

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Following a 1-1 draw with Berry earlier this week, Huntingdon men's soccer(3-7-1 overall, 0-3 CCS) fell to the Lions of Piedmont University(6-5-2 overall, 2-1 CCS) 2-1.

How it happened

Coming out of the gates, neither teams offense could find an opening near the goal. By the 35 minute mark in the first half, the score remained 0-0, as Lundon Danford anchored Huntingdon's defense with three saves and the Lions' keeper recorded two. Nonetheless, Piedmont finally broke the ice and took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal at the 43:58 mark.

Still battling, the Hawks got on the board to tie the game at the 64 minute mark, as Sy Garrett made his way past the Lions' keeper to bring the score to 1-1. With the defensive intensity ramping up across the field, the two teams found themselved deadlocked at 1 inside the final 20 minutes. Following a Huntingdon foul, the Lions lined up for a free kick, sneaking the ball past Lundon Danford at the 73:49 mark to take the match 2-1.
