Merrion’s win clinches match for men’s tennis

TUSKEGEE, Ala.  – Kevaughnte Merrion won at No. 5 singles to help the Huntingdon men's tennis team edge Tuskegee University 4-3 on Saturday.

Merrion won the No. 5 match 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The Hawks won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead 1-0. Per Division II rules, one point is awarded to the team that wins two or more doubles matches. Per NCAA rules, when teams from difference divisions compete, the rules of the home team's division are applied.

The team of Mark Melchor and Carson Sands won at No. 1 doubles and Merrion teamed with Clint Robinson to win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Sands (No. 2) and Robinson (No. 3) won to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. Tuskegee wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles tied the score to set up Merrion's decisive match.
