Huntingdon competes in USA South Track and Field Championship

BEREA, Ky. – The Huntingdon track and field teams competed in the USA South Championship on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Huntingdon men scored 11 points and finished eighth in the field of 10 teams. The Huntingdon women scored four points and finished 12th in the field of 12 teams.

The Huntingdon men competed with eight athletes in 10 events and the women's team competed with two athletes in two events.

For the men, Jalyn Lewis turned in the first-year program's best time yet in the 400 meters with a time of 52.24 seconds in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals.  He finished sixth in the finals with a time of 52.75 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Lewis was fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:01.84 and eighth in the finals with a time of 1:05.68.

Tyler Shirley was 16th of 22 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters with a time of 55.56 seconds and 12th of 12 in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.71.

Harrison Jackson was 21st of 22 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters with a time of 59.31 seconds.

Taylor Chestnutt was 14th of 22 in the preliminaries of the 400 meters with a time of 54.72 seconds. He was 13th of 21 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.32.

Will Curtis was 19th of 21 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.88, 16th of 17 in the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters and sixth of six in the triple jump with a distance of 11.67 meters.

Alex Cole was 26th of 28 in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:59.64 and ninth of nine in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:00.59.

Michael Storie was 27th of 28 in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:00.39.  

Mac Brooks was 14th of 26 in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:09.01 and seventh of 10 in the 10000 meters with a time of 36:29.84.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Huntingdon's team of Shirley, Chestnutt, Cole and Lewis finished seventh of seven with a time of 3:43.78.

For the women, Mary Stanley was seventh of 25 in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.14, seventh of 20 in the 1500 meters with her personal best time of 5:23.66.

Gracie Davis was 13th of 25 in the 800 meters with her personal best time of 2:47.75.

 

All-Conference Teams: The USA South announced the All-Conference teams and the Sportsmanship teams following the championships. Taylor Chestnutt was named to the All-Sportsmanship team for the Huntingdon men and Mary Stanley was named for the Huntingdon women.
