Two Hawks Podium As Track And Field Kicks Off The CCS Championships

MARYVILLE, Tenn.- With today bringing on the first slate of events, Huntingdon Track and Field traveled to Maryville College for day one of the Collegiate Conference of the South Championships.

At the end of the first day, Huntingdon's men's team accumulated 22 points, good enough for fifth place thus far. Sophomore Will Shirley led the Hawks field effort on the day, placing third in both the hammer and javelin throw, hitting marks of 41 meters and 43.93 meters, respectively. Freshman Marcus Malone saw the podium for Huntingdon today as well, taking third in the high jump with a mark of 1.76 meters. Blake Bailey and Dalan Bunn rounded of Huntingdon's scoring for the day, placing eighth and sixth in the 3000m steeplechase.

As for the members of the mens team who participated in preliminary events, Rory Gilroy, Grayson York, Mackenzy Crawford, Gavin McAbee, and Jimmy Woods all qualified for finals in their events. Gilrory led things off with a first place finish in the 110m Hurdles before doubling up with a first place finish in the 400m Hurdles as well. Crawford claimed first in the 400m with a time of 50.15 before taking second in the 200m, with McAbee also qualifying with a seventh place finish in the 400. York saw qualifying times in three events, finishing 6th in the 100m dash, 8th in the 110m Hurdles, and 3rd in the 400m Hurdles. Woods closed things out with a 2nd place 100m finish.

As for the women's team, the Hawks currently find themselves in 5th place with 17 total points. The bulk of Huntingdon's points came by way of Trinity Treadway, who placed 8th in the hammer throw with a mark of 32.27 meters before taking 5th in the javelin throw. Evie Garrett scored the first points of the day however, finishing 5th in the 3000m steeplechase in her first time competing in the event. Michaela Moore secured points for the Hawks as well with a 5th place finish in the 10,000m, crossing the line in 44:01.49. Senior Aleah Vess' 5th place mark in the high jump closed out Huntingdon's day one scoring.

The women's team also saw a plethora of Hawks qualify for finals across the board. Senior Kate Smith led the way, seeing qualifications in the 800m and the 400m. Freshman Nariah Travis qualified in multiple events as well, placing third in the 200m and sixth in the 400m.  Mya Farmer took home Huntingdon's final qualification on the day, finishing third in the 100m hurdles.
