Huntingdon cross country struggles at JSU Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's cross country team placed 11th and the men's cross country team did not place in the JSU Foothills Invitational on Saturday.

The women were without senior Caitlin McMahon and freshman Whitney Denney in the race. The men were without junior Ian Layne and freshman Alex Dunkel and senior Jeff Jenkins was unable to finish the race due to illness.

The men did not place in the team standings because only four runners finished the race.

"We were without some key runners today and that hurt both teams," Huntingdon cross country coach Nate Rucker said. "We've just got to keep working and improving and try to rebound at the next race."

Alex Taylor placed 71st with a time of 29:40 to lead the men. Patrick Cross turned in a time of 30:48, McDowell Pinckard finished in 31:27 and Drayton Rodgers ran a time of 34:21.

Sheaney Marshall led the women with a time of 21:48. Rachael Phillips was next at 22:16, followed by Jackie Daniels at 22:37, Brianna McClure at 22:43, Hannah Still at 24:11, Jodie Thomas at 25:47 and Carly Williamson at 29:39.

Both teams return to action on Oct. 15 in Troy at the Coach "O" Invitational.
