Freshman’s record-setting performance leads cross country team

FLORENCE, Ala. – Freshman Mac Brooks turned in a record-setting time and helped lead the Huntingdon men's cross country team to a runner-up finish in his first collegiate event on Saturday.

Brooks' time of 16:43.4 in the Martin Methodist Red Hawk Season Opener was good enough for second and was the fastest 5K time by a Huntingdon runner in the history of the program.

Brooks' time edged the program record of 16:45.49 that was set in 2009.

On Saturday, Brooks finished just 2.4 seconds behind tournament winner Anthony Garza of Bethel.

As a team, the Hawks scored 39 points to finish second in the three-team event. Huntingdon turned in an average time of 19:44.
