Huntingdon softball downs Transylvania, falls to #5 Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team split in a pair of games at Emory on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks knocked off Transylvania 11-2 in the first game of the day but came up short in a 3-2 loss to fifth-ranked Emory. The win was Emory's ninth straight.

Huntingdon (5-3) came out strong in Game 1 and pounded out 14 hits against Transylvania. The Lady Hawks scored four runs in the top of the first and seven runs during the final three innings.

Aleah Payne got the scoring started with an RBI double, Holly Ostrander followed with a two-run homer and Jenna Rimensnyder scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

Morgan Goshorn singled in a run in the fourth to make it 5-1. In the fifth, an Ostrander sacrifice fly brought in one run, a Rimensnyder double brought in another run and a Hayley Praytor single made it 8-1.

The Lady Hawks closed the scoring in the sixth inning as Bree Giordana singled in one run and Rimensnyder singled in two runs.

Five Lady Hawks recorded multiple hits. Payne was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Richardson finished 2-for-3 with three runs. Rimensnyder was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs, Praytor was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Lauren Welch was 2-for-3. Ostrander finished with three RBIs and a run and Giordana had an RBI and two runs.

Giordana picked up the win, striking out five, walking two, scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs in six innings.

Against Emory, Richardson and Kristi Taylor were the only Lady Hawks with multiple hits. Richardson was 3-for-4 and Taylor was 2-for-3.

Emory (15-1) took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning and made it 3-0 in the sixth inning. Huntingdon mounted a rally in the seventh, but couldn't quite catch Emory.

A Welch sacrifice fly scored Melissa McClure and Angela Barkman drove in Giordana to make it a 3-2 game with two outs. Emory forced Huntingdon to ground out to end the game.

McClure took the loss in six innings.

Huntingdon returns to action on Thursday in a doubleheader at Covenant.
