Huntingdon softball splits on Day 1 of Roanoke Valley Softball Bash

SALEM, Va. – The Huntingdon softball team picked up a 7-run win in its first game of the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash but lost a 9-run game to end the day.

Huntingdon opened Saturday with an 11-4 win over Rochester College before Roanoke knocked off the Lady Hawks 10-1.

"Roanoke is one of the most complete Division III teams I have seen," Huntingdon head coach Gynger Williams said. "That was a good team to gauge ourselves against. If we want to be able to advance beyond conference, we're going to have to be able to play and compete with teams like that.

"That game was a humbling experience, but I hope it will be good for us. It's a game we can learn from and I expect to see us put a little more together when we take the field on Sunday."

Melissa McClure picked up the win for Huntingdon (7-4) in the first game. Brittany Richardson and Aleah Payne scored Huntingdon's first two runs. Angela Barkman added a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

Complete stats from the first game were not available Saturday night.

In Game 2, Bree Giordana took the loss. Richardson drove in Huntingdon's run with a solo homer and finished 2-for-3.

Huntingdon will wrap up the tournament on Sunday, playing Randolph-Macon and Ferrum.
