McClure's perfect game highlights softball sweep of Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team remained perfect in conference play with a 14-0 and 7-1 sweep of Wesleyan on Friday.

Highlighting the sweep were Melissa McClure's perfect game in the opener and 25 hits for the Lady Hawks (12-8, 6-0 Great South Athletic Conference) in the two games.

McClure faced 15 batters in the five-inning game and struck out 10 for the win. Brooke Meadows picked up the win in Game 2, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out five. Anna Stephens struck out five, walked two and gave up two hits in relief.

Ten different Huntingdon players recorded hits in Game 1 and a total of 15 Lady Hawks either had a hit, a RBI or a run in the win. Nine Lady Hawks had at least one hit in Game 2.

Ashlee Zachmeyer and Ashley Johnson each had four hits in the doubleheader and Justice Fuller and Lauren Welch each had three hits. Zachmeyer was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs and Johnson was 4-for-6 with a RBI, two runs and four stolen bases. Welch was 3-for-4 with a triple, a RBI and a run and Fuller was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run.

In Game 1, Brittany Richardson, Holly Ostrander and McClure each had two RBIs. Chasity Ward scored twice in Game 1 and had two stolen bases in Game 2.

Wesleyan (0-16, 0-4 GSAC) travels to Huntingdon on Saturday for another doubleheader. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
