Huntingdon takes Game 1 of doubleheader at Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon softball team split a doubleheader at Belhaven on Wednesday.

The Lady Hawks won 10-4 in the first game before losing 4-0 in Game 2.

Huntingdon took control of the first game with five runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth inning. Trailing 3-2 in the fourth inning, the Lady Hawks tied the game with an RBI double by Sydney Conville that scored Lydia Lewis. Huntingdon took the lead on an RBI double by Caitlyn Caffee that scored Claire Tomberlin.

Alyssa Singleterry drove in Caffee and Madison Perryman with a two-run triple to make it a 6-3 game. Singleterry later scored on a single by Rayne Ellis.

Huntingdon built a 10-3 lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Ellis and a two-run single by MacKenzie Smelley.

Ellis finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run and Caffee was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Singleterry and Perryman each had two RBIs and a run and Smelley had two RBIs. Conville finished with an RBI and a run and McKenzie Ridgway, Ashley Carroll, Lewis and Tomberlin each scored one run.

Paige Desmond (1-0) earned the win in four innings of relief. Mallory McCarty (1-3) took the loss in Game 2.
