Lady Hawks earn second straight conference sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team earned its second straight conference sweep with a pair of 3-1 wins against Berea on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks built a 3-0 lead in Game 1 before Berea scored in the seventh inning. In Game 2, Huntingdon carried a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning before adding a final run.

Madison Hunt (11-2) pitched a complete game for the win in Game 1. The junior struck out eight, walked one, allowed one run and scattered three hits. In Game 2, Mallory McCarty (2-3) earned the win in relief of starter Lauren Melton. McCarty pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and did not allow a runner to reach base. Melton walked one, allowed one run and gave up seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In Game 1, Huntingdon took the lead on back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning. Hannah Vines doubled to drive in Madison Perryman and Lydia Lewis doubled to drive in Vines to make it a 2-0 game. Kaci Cochran drove in Rayne Ellis with a single in the fifth inning to put Huntingdon in front 3-0.

Ellis and Perryman each finished with two hits in Game 1.

Caitlyn Caffee drove in all three of Huntingdon's runs in Game 2 and finished the second game 2-for-2. Caffee singled to drive in Ellis and McKenzie Ridgway in the first inning.

After Berea answered with one run in the fourth inning, Caffee singled to drive in MacKenzie Smelley for the final run in the sixth inning.
