Hawks rally for win in Game 1 against Salem

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team opened the weekend with a split against Salem College.

The Hawks rallied to win the first game 5-4 before falling 4-1 in the second game.

In Game 1, Huntingdon fell behind 4-3 in the third inning but scored two runs in the final three innings to get the win. Lydia Lewis drove in the tying run with a single in the fifth inning and scored the winning run on a single by Gabby Patterson in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lewis was 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run and two stolen bases in Game 1 and Caitlyn Caffee was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a double. Michaela Denney drove in two runs on a triple and Emily Nieuwstraten had two hits and a run. Patterson had one RBI, Madisson Smith and Madison Perryman each scored one run and Mollie Singleterry had two hits. Perryman also had two stolen bases.

Madison Hunt (4-0) pitched her third complete game of the season to earn the win. Katie Clifton (0-2) took the loss in Game 2.

The Hawks fell behind 4-0 in the first three innings of the second game. Huntingdon answered with one run in the fifth inning but could not overtake Salem. Patterson drove in Emma Spurlin for the Hawks' only run.

Sydney Conville was the only Huntingdon player with multiple hits in Game 2 and finished 2-for-3.
