Stefankiewicz named Rookie of the Year, three Hawks earn All-Conference awards

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Brooke Stefankiewicz was named Rookie of the Year and a total of three Huntingdon softball players earned All-Conference or All-Division recognition with the release of the USA South All-Conference awards on Thursday.

Stefankiewicz is the first female Huntingdon student-athlete to be recognized as USA South Rookie of the Year in any sport since the Hawks joined the USA South in 2013.

Stefankiewicz was named first-team All-Conference as an outfielder, and along with junior outfielder Hannah Vines, earned first-team West Division honors. Senior Caitlyn Caffee was named second-team West Division at first base. Caffee was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

In her first collegiate season, Stefankiewicz batted .391, with 36 hits, 32 runs and 18 stolen bases. She is currently tied for first in the conference in runs scored, tied for second in stolen bases and seventh in hits. Her batting average was fifth in the conference for players with at least 90 at-bats.

Vines was second on Huntingdon's team with a .347 batting average, third for the Hawks with 25 hits, fourth with 15 runs and tied for fourth on the team with 10 RBIs.

Caffee started in all 34 games for Huntingdon this season and batted .272 with 22 hits, 13 RBIs, 10 runs, four doubles and one triple. She was third for the Hawks in RBIs, tied for fourth in doubles and tied for fifth in hits.

Piedmont was recognized with the conference's other four major awards. Piedmont outfielder Katelyn Perry was named USA South Player of the Year, Piedmont junior Martina Maloch was named Pitcher of the Year, Piedmont's Emma McBrayer was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year and Piedmont's Terry Martin was named Coach of the Year.
