Hawks Hold Mt. St. Joseph And Rhodes Scoreless To Move To 6-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Hosting the Firehouse Invitational for their second home tournament in as many weekends, Huntingdon softball welcomed Mt. St. Joseph and Rhodes to Cannon Field for a double-header at home.

The Hawks took game one from the Lions of Mt. St. Joseph 5-0 before claiming a 16-0 victory over the Rhodes Lynx. Catcher Miranda Treadway shined, drilling two home runs over the fence to spark Huntingdon's offensive attack.

Game one v. Mt. St. Joseph

After forcing three outs in as many batters, largely in part due to the pitching from sophomore Allie Roberts, the Hawks struck first in the bottom frame of the first inning, as a walk brought in Jordan Holman. Elli Lorance followed up with an RBI single at the next at bat, scoring Miranda Treadway to give Huntingdon a 2-0 lead heading into the second inning. The next base hit wouldn't come until the third inning, with Dani Holt singling up the middle, but the Hawks lead remained at 2-0.

Jordan Holman extended the Huntingdon lead to 3-0 in the bottom frame of the 4th inning, scoring Riley Rudick to raise the Hawks advantage. The Lions put their first hit on the board in the top of the fifth inning, but Miranda Treadway's two-run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning iced the game and gave Huntingdon the 5-0 win.

33 Allie Roberts pitched a complete game for the Hawks, throwing 4 strikeouts while only allowing 3 hits to anchor the Hawks to victory.

Game two v. Rhodes

The Hawks came out of the gates hot in their second game of the day, with Dani Holt's double bringing home Maddie Grace Hubbard and Jordan Holman for the Hawks first two runs of the day in the bottom of the first.  Miranda Treadway found her way home at the following at bat off a groundout from Sydney Sellers to bring the lead to 3-0 entering the second inning.

The second inning mirrored the first for the Hawks, as Holman doubled to score Hubbard and Kamryn Miller to extend the lead to 5-0. Two Addison Gaines strikeouts in the third inning retired the side quickly, positioning the Hawks for an opportunity to grow the lead further.

Elli Lorance brought home Taylor Au at the third at bat for Huntingdon, scoring the first of the Hawks 8 runs. Hubbard singled shortly after to score Lauren Watts before Riley Rudick crossed home plate on a walk to push the lead to 8-0. Another Jordan Holman double secured runs for Miller, Cannon, and Hubbard to bring the lead to 11-0. Miranda Treadway drilled her second two-run homer of the afternoon shortly thereafter to extend Huntingdon's lead to 13-0 heading into the 4th inning.

In her first collegiate at-bat in the bottom of the 4th inning, Amya Wommack drilled a three run homer to bring Huntingdon's win to 16-0.

Addison Gaines pitched 4 innings for Huntingdon, allowing 1 hit while throwing 5 strikeouts to anchor the Hawks. Madison Fruge closed the final inning, allowing one hit before bringing the game to a close.

The Hawks look to keep rolling tomorrow, February 23rd, returning to action at the Firehouse Invitational. The Hawks are set to take on Rhodes at 12:00 PM with their second matchup against Mt. St. Joseph to come after.
