#10 Softball Sweeps Double-Header With Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Kicking off their stretch of games against SAA opponents, #10 Huntingdon Softball opened up their series with Millsaps College by claiming the first two of a three game series with the Majors. The Hawks walked away with a 5-2 victory in game one before coming-from-behind to take a 6-2 win in game two.

Game One: HC-5, MC-2

After Allie Roberts forced three outs in as many batters to bring a rapid end to the opening frame, the Hawks got on the board with a three run inning immediately after. Jordan Holman got things going at just the second at-bat for Huntingdon, drilling a two-run shot over the fence, scoring herself and Hubbard to give the Hawks the early 2-0 advantage. Riley Rudick's run shortly after on a passed ball brought the lead to 3-0 entering the second inning.

With neither team generating any offensive momentum in the second inning, the Hawks managed to extend their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning, with Miranda Treadway crossing home plate off a sacrifice fly from Amaya Wommack. The Majors responded in the fourth inning with a run to cut Huntingdon's lead to 4-1, but Kylie Stephens run in the following frame brought the Hawks lead back to four, 5-1.

Millsaps managed to put one more run on the board, but the Hawks held on, taking a 5-2 victory in the first game.

Allie Roberts picked up the win for Huntingdon and moved to 9-1 on the season, throwing 4 strikeouts while allowing just 1 run on 4 hits to put the Hawks ahead. Maidsyn Fruge took to the circle in the 5th inning and collected her first save of the year, giving up just two hits and 1 run through 3 innings.

Game Two: HC-6, MC-2

Looking to avenge their loss from the first game, Millsaps struck first in the opening frame, scoring two runs to claim the lead early. The Majors remained in control of their advantage until the fifth inning, surrendering just 3 hits in the process. In the bottom frame of the fifth inning, the Hawks first run came by way of an Amaya Wommack single, sending both Jordan Holman across home plate to reduce the deficit to 2-1. A passed ball at the next at bat scored Miranda Treadway, evening things at two before Dani Holt's RBI single brought home Wommack to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Mandy Cannon's RBI double at the next at bat scored Kinley Hutto to extend the lead to 4-2 entering the sixth inning. To put the game on ice, Treadway doubled through the left side, sending in Holman to bring the advantage to 5-2 before a wild pitch scored Miranda to bring the final score to 6-2.

Addison Gaines drew the start in the circle for Huntingdon, allowing two runs on five hits in two innings. Allie Roberts moved to 10-1 on the year with her appearance in the third inning, striking out five Majors while allowing just two hits to put the Hawks in front.

The Hawks close out their series with Millsaps tomorrow, March 12th. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM CT.
