#10 Softball Sweeps Asbury

WILMORE, Ky.- Opening up CCS play on the road, nationally-ranked #10 Huntingdon Softball made the trip to Wilmore, Kentucky for a matchup with Asbury University.

The Hawks made quick work of the Eagles, claiming victory 8-0 in five innings in game one of the double-header before finishing things off with a 9-0 win in game two.

Game one

The first run of the game belonged to the Hawks in the opening frame, with Riley Rudick's double scoring Miranda Treadway to give Huntingdon a quick 1-0 lead. Over the course of the next two innings, Huntingdon's offense couldn't get anything going, but largely in part due to five strikeouts from Allie Roberts, the Hawks maintained control. Maddie Grace Hubbard tripled in the fourth inning to bring life back to the Huntingdon offense, scoring Mandy Cannon and Taylor Au as the lead grew to 3-0. Hubbard found her way home shortly after on an Eagle error to push the Hawks lead to 4-0 entering the fifth inning.

To close the game in five innings, Kylie Stephens and Mandy Cannon each drilled doubles to left field, scoring Rudick, Amaya Wommack, and Kylie before Wommack crossed home plate again on an Asbury error to give the Hawks a 8-0 win.

In the circle

Allie Roberts collected her 12th win of the season pitching all five innings, allowing just 1 hit while throwing 5 strikeouts.

Game two

Game two got off to a similar start to the first, with Huntingdon's first run coming in the opening frame. Miranda Treadway's double to left field sent Maddie Grace Hubbard home, giving the Hawks an early advantage entering the second inning.

After another quiet second inning, the Hawks put two runs through in the third inning, with Kylie Stephens and Amaya Wommack scoring Treadway and Riley Rudick to extend the lead to 3-0. The Hawks distanced themselves even further in the fourth inning, with Kamryn Miller scoring on an error to get things going. Treadway doubled yet again two at-bats later, scoring Hubbard for the second time as the lead grew to 5-0. Kate Dinkel closed the inning with a RBI single, scoring Treadway to bring the lead to 6-0.

To bring the game to an end in five, an Asbury error at a Jordan Holman at-bat allowed for Hubbard, Miller, and Taylor Au to score, giving the Hawks a 9-0 victory and the sweep.

In the circle

Addison Gaines drew the start for Huntingdon and gathered her 5th win of the season, allowing 4 hits whil striking out 2 batters in a little over one inning of play. Madisyn Fruge finished things off for Huntingdon, throwing 5 strikeouts while allowing just one hit to cement the sweep.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, March 23rd, as they battle the defending CCS Champions, the Maryville Scots, on the road. Games are set for 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM CT.
