Hawks Split Double-Header With #13 Belhaven

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Following up on their perfect 4-0 conference series from last week, #9 Huntingdon Softball returned to Cannon Field, this time hosting the #13 ranked Belhaven Blazers in a crucial double-header.

After claiming a 4-2 victory in game one, the Hawks suffered their first conference loss of the season in game two, falling 7-4.

Game One

Following a scoreless first inning for both teams, the first run of the afternoon belonged to the Blazers, as a RBI double put Belhaven in front early. The Hawks responded in the following frame, as a Blazer error made way for Kate Dinkel to score, evening things at 1 as the third inning got underway.

Following three outs in as many batters for Belhaven, Miranda Treadway sent her 8th home run of the season over the fence, scoring Jordan Holman along the way as Huntingdon claimed a 3-1 lead at the end of the third inning. Dani Holt followed Treadway with a RBI single to right-center field, bringing home Lauren Watts to extend the Huntingdon lead to 4-1 coming down the stretch. The Blazers put another run through in the fifth inning to cut the Huntingdon lead to 4-2, but solid defensive play held off Belhaven and gave the Hawks a 4-2 victory.

In the circle

  • Allie Roberts started the game for Huntingdon and pitched two innings before Madisyn Fruge picked up her fourth win on the season, allowing 1 run and 4 hits through 5 innings.

Game Two

The Blazers caught fire in the early stages of game two, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning before extending it to 5-0 midway through the second. Kamryn Miller's run off a Belhaven error momentarily stopped the bleeding as the Hawks cut the deficit to 5-1 heading into the fourth inning.

Huntingdon found life in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a walk bringing home Maddie Grace Hubbard as the lead was reduced to 5-2. Jordan Holman followed up with a double to right-center field, securing runs for Mandy Cannon and Amaya Wommack as the Hawks clawed their way within one run, 5-4.

Following scoreless fifth and sixth innings, Belhaven secured two runs in the seventh inning, fighting off the Hawks as they claimed a 7-4 victory, splitting the conference series between the two front-runners.

In the circle

  • Madisyn Fruge drew the start for the Hawks and collected her first loss of the season, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in a little over one inning of play. Allie Roberts then faced two batters before Addison Gaines pitched the remaining 5 innings. Gaines allowed two runs on four hits.
