Fruge's Perfect Game Headlines Huntingdon's Sweep Of Covenant

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to Cannon Field for the first time since their double-header split with #13 Belhaven University last weekend, #9 ranked Huntingdon Softball welcomed the Covenant College Scots to Montgomery for another Collegiate Conference of the South double-header.

The Hawks took care of business all afternoon, defeating the Scots 8-0 in each of the run-rule determined games. Huntingdon's pitching staff combined for an excellent showing in both games, with Allie Roberts kicking things off by allowing just one hit and one walk, while transfer Madisyn Fruge pitched a perfect game in game two.

In the circle for all six innings of the second game, Fruge faced 18 batters putting all of them away. Of those 18 outs, she pitched three strikeouts to boost the Hawks to their 7th conference victory in 8 contests.

Game One

The Hawks started pouring it on early in game run, scoring five runs in the first inning. Jordan Holman got things going with a double to right-center field, scoring Maddie Grace Hubbard for the first run of the afternoon. Riley Rudick later returned the favor to Holman, striking a RBI single to left field as the lead grew to 2-0. The hits kept coming, as Katie Burch and Kylie Stephens each recorded hits, allowing Miranda Treadway, Rudick, and Kate Dinkel to cross home plate before the end of the inning.

After a quiet second, third, and fourth innings offensively, Lauren Watts drilled through the right side in the fifth, scoring Dinkel and Amaya Wommack as the Huntingdon lead grew to 7-0. Mandy Cannon's triple at the next at-bat brought the game to a close early, sending Watts across home plate to give Huntingdon the 8-0 lead.

Allie Roberts pitched all five innings for Huntingdon, striking out five Scots while allowing just one hit en route to her 14th win of the year.

Game Two

In direct contrast to the start of the first game, the first two innings of game two were silent offensively, as neither team found home plate. The Hawks broke things open in the third however, as Miranda Treadway's double brought home both Maddie Grace Hubbard and Kamryn Miller to as Huntingdon claimed the 2-0 advantage. This was followed by four runs in the fifth inning, with hits from Jordan Holman, Kylie Stephens, and Kamryn Miller securing runs for Hubbard, Rudick, and Burch before Holman crossed home plate herself to raise the lead to 6-0.

To bring things to a close early, Miranda Treadway sent her 8th home run of the season of the fence in left-center, scoring Holman in the process to give the Hawks a 8-0 win in six innings.

As mentioned before, Madisyn Fruge successfully pitched a perfect game for Huntingdon in the circle. She now has become the first Hawk to do so since April 2013.

The Hawks look to keep rolling on Tuesday, April 8th, traveling to face LaGrange College. Games are set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM CT.
