DANVILLE, Va. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team took control early and rolled past Averett University 78-61 on Sunday.
With the win, Huntingdon (9-4) improved to 3-3 in the USA South Athletic Conference. Averett (1-10) dropped to 0-5 in conference play.
Raven Prater, Pat Pickens and Jello Weatherspoon combined for 48 points to lead Huntingdon. Prater finished with a game-high 20 points, Pickens followed with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals and Weatherspoon added 11 points.
Arbanee Dean pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds and Tan Munford added 10 rebounds. Munford leads the conference with 150 rebounds this season.
Huntingdon built a 10-point lead midway through the first half and led by as many as 22 points, 36-14, before halftime. The Lady Hawks led by at least 14 points for the final 15 minutes of the game.
Huntingdon returns to action at Roland Arena on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Birmingham-Southern. The game will mark the start of a six-game home stretch for the Lady Hawks.
