Huntingdon women can’t hold off Battling Bishops

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team carried a seven-point lead into the final five minutes on Saturday but North Carolina Wesleyan rallied for a 71-66 win at Roland Arena.

The Battling Bishops (5-7, 3-3 USA South) outscored Huntingdon 15-3 in the final five minutes of the game and snapped the Lady Hawks' five-game home winning streak.

"I thought we played well for most of the game, but we didn't finish the game on offense or defense," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "North Carolina Wesleyan has a good team and they took advantage of that. We have to come back out and be ready to play on Sunday."

Huntingdon (11-5, 3-4 USA South) hosts William Peace (1-11, 1-5 USA South) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Senior Raven Prater led Huntingdon with 24 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. With her first 3-pointer, a little less than a minute into the game, Prater became the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era leader for 3-pointers made.

Entering the game, she was tied with Ronnisha Ravizee with 119 career 3s. Prater hit five 3s against N.C. Wesleyan to give her 124 for her career, including 36 this season.

Pat Pickens added 15 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists for Huntingdon. Tan Munford finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks and Jodie Thomas pulled down nine rebounds.
