Lady Hawks come up short in season opener

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team fell to Pensacola Christian 86-76 on Monday in the Lady Hawks' season opener.

Tied 38-38 at the half, Pensacola Christian (4-1) pulled ahead and built a 10-point lead early in the second half. Huntingdon rallied and tied the game in the final 10 minutes, but Pensacola Christian was able to finish off the win.

"This was a very poor performance to start the season," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "We didn't play well on defense and on offense we didn't finish our shots or make our free throws. It's an upsetting start and we are going to have to go back to work and get better."

Senior Pat Pickens led Huntingdon with 26 points and eight rebounds. With the 26 points, Pickens became just the third Lady Hawk to score 1,000 career points. Huntingdon's third-leading scorer during the NCAA era, Pickens has 1,002 career points. Tiffany Jordan holds the Lady Hawks' career scoring record with 1,414 points.

Mackenzie Garmany added 10 points. Juliette Harp pulled down 12 rebounds and Jenna Dorman had eight points and five rebounds.

Huntingdon travels to Birmingham-Southern on Thursday for a 5 p.m. game.
