Lady Hawks stumble against Battling Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Seniors Pat Pickens and Tan Munford each recorded double-doubles on Saturday, but the Huntingdon women's basketball team came up short 64-54 at North Carolina Wesleyan.

Munford had a season-high 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and Pickens finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds. It was the second double-double of the season for Munford and the seventh double-double for Pickens. Jai'Lyn Lover added five steals for Huntingdon (7-8, 2-5 USA South).

North Carolina Wesleyan (4-10, 2-7 USA South) built an 11-point lead in the first half and led 34-27 at halftime. Huntingdon rallied in the second half and took its first lead, 45-43, on a 3-pointer by Lover with 11 minutes to play.

But North Carolina Wesleyan regained the lead with 9:08 to play and did not trail again. Huntingdon remained within six points until the final 65 seconds. The Battling Bishops made a layup and three free throws in the final 1:05 to close out the game.

The Lady Hawks play at William Peace on Sunday at 2 p.m.
