Huntingdon falls to Averett in Cougar Tip-Off tournament

DANVILLE, Va. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team battled Averett University into the final minutes on Saturday before falling 69-60 in the Cougar Tip-Off Tournament.

Huntingdon led 53-50 with 7:16 to play in the game before Averett took the lead for good. The Cougars used a 10-0 run to build a 60-53 lead with 5:07 remaining. Huntingdon pulled within four points in the final five minutes, but Averett extended its lead and closed out the game.

Indya Lawrence led Huntingdon with 20 points and six assists to go with five rebounds. Shaonica Thomas added 17 points and five rebounds and Keturah Billen had a team-high seven rebounds.

Huntingdon played from behind for much of the first half, but never trailed by more than nine points. The Lady Hawks carried a 31-31 tie into halftime. In the second half, neither team led by more than four points until the final six minutes of the game.
