Hawks Fall to Maryville

Maryville, Tennessee – The Hawks (2-11 overall, 2-5 in the CCS) fell to Maryville College (6-9 overall, 3-3 in the CCS) 60-48 in their conference road matchup.

A quick 4-0 run by the Scots gave them the early lead until the Hawks took the lead with a three pointer by Cassidy Campbell (6-4). Some exchanged baskets left the score tied at nine with three minutes remaining. Sophomore, Payton Corbett stepped up and knocked down a three so the Hawks could reclaim their lead (12-9). Back-to-back jump shots from both teams ended the quarter with a score of 14-11. The first points in the second quarter came from a Maryville free-throw that brought the game back within two points. Kinstin Davis made a jumpshot followed by a three pointer from AB Davis to shoot the Hawks lead back to seven (19-12). With two baskets from Maryville, one being a made three, they cut the lead to five with 3:45 remaining in the first half (22-17) and then made their way to the free-throw line to cut it to 3-points (22-19). Huntingdon closed out the quarter with a pass from Briana McGruder to Deshauna Foote for a quick layup underneath the basket (24-19).

To begin the third quarter, Maryville took the lead with a 13-0 run that included three 3-pointers in the first four minutes. Huntingdon was finally able to add a three of their own from the lone third quarter scorer, Erica Rodriguez at the six-minute mark (32-27). Rodriguez scored eleven points, with three made three's of her own in the third but it was not enough to regain the lead heading into the fourth with a score of 42-35. In the fourth, the Hawks were able to add three more three's to the stat sheet but were outscored by Maryville 18-13.

The Hawks shot 28% from the field while Maryville shot 41%

The Hawks made 3 more three's than the Scots, but the Scots shot 40% from behind the arc while Huntingdon shot 28%

Huntingdon was outscored in the second half 41-24 after winning the first half 24-19.
