Hawks Take Down MUW

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks (5-13 overall, 4-6 in the CCS) defeated Mississippi University for Women (0-16 overall) 80-40 to capture back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The game started off shot for shot for the first six and a half minutes of the game. With the score tied at 12 with 3:30 left in the first quarter the Hawks went on a 12-0 run led by Kinstin Davis and Alina Shoemake who accounted for 16 of the Hawks 24 points (24-12). A 10-0 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter gave the Hawks their largest lead of the night at 34-12. Within a minute, sophomore, Lauryn Lyn made two threes to shut the Owls back down after two made shots (42-16). The Owls did not make any field goals for the remainder of the half, but they did add three free throws and the Hawks sent the game to halftime with a made layup in the final five seconds by Deshauna Foote (44-19).

The Hawks shot 51% from the field while the Owls shot 31%

Hawks forced 10 MUW turnovers

Kinstin Davis and Alina Shoemake had 10 points in the first half

 

The first points of the second half came from an Owls three but the next five came from the Hawks as they added a jump shot and another made three. The Hawks proved why they are leading the Collegiate Conference of the South in made three pointers and three point percentage with ten made threes for the game and 6 of them coming in the second half. Huntingdon continued to push the ball and create 12 more turnovers for the Owls that converted to 9 points for the Hawks. Gaining their largest lead of 47 in the fourth quarter with 7:28 remaining in the game the Hawks held the Owls to 9 fourth quarter points.
