The Hawks Soar Past Agnes Scott

MONTGOMERY,Ala. In their second showdown of the season, Huntingdon women's basketball (11-13 overall, 8-7 CCS) took down the Scotties of Agnes Scott College(3-19 overall, 3-11 CCS), winning by a score of 71-47.

 

How it happened

 

First quarter

  • The Hawks started the game with a 4-0 run in the first two minutes with baskets coming from Lauryn Lyn and Deshauna Foote

  • Agnes Scott battled back, evening the score at 4 at the 7:05 mark

  • Kinstin Davis capped off a 10-2 Hawks scoring run with a shot from deep, giving the Hawks a 14-6 lead by the 4:15 mark

  • Charity Shaw found room around the basket to give the Hawks a double digit lead at 20-9 entering the second quarter

 

Second quarter

  • With 7:09 remaining in the half, Kinstin Davis nailed her second triple of the game to extend the Hawks lead to 24-12

  • Davis hit another triple just a little over a minute later to spark a 6-0 Huntingdon run, pushing the Hawks lead to 30-12

  • A 4-0 run from the Scotties cut into the Hawks lead, bringing the score to 30-16 with 3:24 remaining until halftime

  • Kinstin Davis knocked down her fourth triple of the game at the 3:03 mark, but the two teams each scored 3 points in the final two minutes to bring the halftime score to 36-19

 

Third quarter

  • Agnes Scott came out of the locker room with a vengeance, opening the second half on a 5-2 run within the first minute of the third quarter, cutting Huntingdon's lead to 38-24

  • Continuing to trade baskets, the Hawks found themselves holding on to a 44-29 lead at the 4:51 mark

  • Cassidy Campbell made a three point shot to push the Hawks lead back to 51-34 with 2:21 remaining in the quarter

  • An Agnes Scott layup in the final few second of the quarter made the score 53-36 entering the final quarter

 

Fourth quarter

  • Looking to end the game strong, the Hawks opened the fourth quarter of play on a 5-2 run led by Faith Johnson, extending their lead to 58-38 with 7:42 remaining

  • The Hawks followed their strong start to the quarter with an 8-0 run, making the score 66-40 with three minutes remaining

  • Ayanna Blanco got an offensive rebound and putback with 15 seconds remaining, icing the game away and giving the Hawks a 71-47 victory.

  • The Hawks never trailed in the matchup

  • Huntingdon outrebounded the Scotties 53-29, scoring 23 second chance points 

  • The Hawks bench outscored Agnes Scott's 35-2
