Hawks Claim Key CCS Victory At LaGrange
LAGRANGE, Ga.- Coming off an 8 point at the hands of Maryville, Huntingdon women's basketball rebounded, claiming a 75-71 road victory over LaGrange on the road. The Hawks saw key performances from Cassidy Campbell and Makayla Ford off the bench, eaching scoring double-digits to boost the Hawks to their third CCS victory and 7th overall on the season.
First Quarter
- Led by a trio of Destiny Grider, Briana McGruder, and Briana Stuckey, Huntingdon jumped out to an early 6-2 lead. LaGrange answered with a 6-0 run of their own to take a 8-6 advantage by the 6 minute mark
- The Hawks responded with an 8-0 run over the next 3 and a half minutes to go back in front, 14-8. Two three-pointers from Cassidy Campbell combined with a Kinstin Davis layup put the Hawks firmly in control entering the final two minutes of the quarter
- The Panthers closed with a 5-0 run to bring Huntingdon's lead to 14-13 heading into the second quarter
Second Quarter
- Trading blows to get the second quarter underway, Deshauna Foote's layup at the five minute mark capped off a 6-0 Huntingdon run that brought the Hawks lead to 24-17
- Cassidy Campbell sank her third and fourth triples of the first half to extend Huntingdon's lead to 30-17 by the 4:14 mark
- Three consecutive LaGrange three-pointers in response cut the Hawks lead to 30-26 with 2:40 to go until halftime
- Trading baskets to close the second quarter, Huntingdon led 32-28 at halftime
Third Quarter
- Continuing the back-and-forth affair as the second half got underway, Destiny Grider cashed in at the 8:22 mark off an assist from Kinstin Davis to bring the Hawks lead to 37-32
- The Panthers pieced together a run to take their first lead of the half at the 6:44 mark, 39-37
- LaGrange hit another shot from deep at the 5:39 run to raise their advantage to 46-39 with 5:39 left in the quarter
- Carltajah Jackson's layup at the 1:07 mark put a stamp on a 12-3 Huntingdon run that put the Hawks back in front by a score of 51-49. LaGrange answered on the following possession to tie things at 51 entering the final quarter
Fourth Quarter
- After trading baskets in the opening minutes, Deshauna Foote found room in the paint to give the Hawks a 56-55 lead at the 8:45 mark
- A 6-0 Panther run set LaGrange's lead at five, 61-56, with 7:50 to go
- Back-to-back layups from Makayla Ford and Kinstin Davis tied the score at 65 entering the final two minutes
- Cassidy Campbell drilled her fifth shot from behind the arc at the 1:06 mark to put Huntingdon in front 70-69, and the Hawks rode the momentum the rest of the way, reclaiming a lead 72-71 lead in the final 30 seconds following Kinstin Davis' layup before hitting some clutch free throws to leave Mariotti Gym with a 75-71 victory
