
Ford's Four Second Quarter Triples Push Huntingdon Past Agnes Scott
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Looking to build off of their senior day win against the Scots of Covenant College, Huntingdon women's basketball played host to Agnes Scott College. The Scotties flew out of the gates, going ahead by as much as eleven in 11 in the first half, but the Hawks, led by Makayla Ford and her four three pointers in the second quarter, put together a comeback to regain the lead by halftime and take the conference victory, 75-63.
First Quarter
- After trading three pointers to open the game, Briana McGruder's free throw at the 7 minute mark gave the Hawks a 4-3 advantage
- Trailing 6-5 by the 5:44 mark, Agnes Scott pieced together a 9-2 run that extended their lead to 14-8 with two minutes remaining in the quarter
- Cassidy Campbell stopped the bleeding with shot from deep at the 1:35 mark, but back-to-back unanswered baskets for the Scotties gave Agnes Scott an 18-11 lead entering the second quarter
Second Quarter
- A 4-0 run to open the quarter pushed the Scotties lead to 22-11 by the 9:20 mark
- Hitting her first at the 6:46 mark, Makayla Ford converted on four three point attempts over the course of the next two minutes to put the Hawks right back in it, trailing 30-25 with 4:33 remaining until halftime
- A seperate 5-0 Hawks run evened things at 30 before Kinstin Davis sank a pair of free throws to give Huntingdon a 32-30 lead with 2 minutes remaining
- Baskets from Davis, Ford, and Deshauna Foote brought the first half to a close with the Hawks in front 37-32
Third Quarter
- Foote hit a short jumpshot at the 7:17 mark to bring the Hawks lead to double digits, 43-33
- A 8-2 Hawks run, capped off by an and-one from Briana Stuckey, pushed Huntingdon's lead to 52-35 with 3:45 remaining in the quarter
- The Hawks continued to pour it on as the third quarter came to a close, with Makayla Ford putting in a layup in the final seconds to bring the Hawks lead to 61-42
Fourth Quarter
- The Scotties continued to battle, opening the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run that cut Huntingdon's lead to 61-54 with 6:31 to go before hitting a three pointer to reduce the deficit to as little as 63-57 by the 5:18 mark
- Leading 65-59 with two and a half minutes to go, Charity Shaw and Makayla Ford combined to score 8 of the Hawks last 10 points to maintain the lead and give Huntingdon the 75-63 victory
