Women’s lacrosse comes up short in battle with Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team set the tone in the first half Sunday, but Millsaps rallied in the second half for a 17-13 win.

The Lady Hawks (0-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game and held a 6-3 lead late in the first half. But Millsaps (1-0) scored just before the half and scored seven straight goals to open the second half and take control.

Trailing 14-9, Huntingdon scored four goals to make it a one-goal game with 7:48 to play. The Majors added three goals in the final four minutes to close out the game.

Shannen O'Leary scored four goals and had a team-high five draw controls for Huntingdon. Jamie Reschke, Candace Williams and Briana Gress each scored two goals and Carolyn Smith, Lonnitria Keenan and Bree Brake each had one goal.

Gress also had four draw controls and Kate Heinrichs had one assist. Jen Price recorded four caused turnovers and six ground balls.

Goalie Victoria Krupa had 11 saves, 17 goals allowed, two caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Huntingdon returns to action on Feb. 22, hosting Alma College at 2 p.m.
