Women’s lacrosse posts first shutout in program history

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team beat Warren Wilson 17-0 on Saturday to earn its first win of the season.

The Hawks did not allow the Owls to take a shot in the game.

The shutout was the first in program history for the ninth-year Hawks. Before Saturday's shutout, Huntingdon's top-two performances for goals allowed came in a 13-1 win over Dallas last season and a 20-4 win over Oglethorpe in 2014.

The Hawks took control quickly against Warren Wilson, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes and 11 goals in the first half.

Shelby Martin led Huntingdon with five goals and one assist and Olivia Stinson and Shelby Blair each scored three goals. Shelby Barrett and Jordan Alvis each had two goals. Alvis also had five draw controls.

Vanessa Maldonado had one goal, one assist and four ground balls, Keirstin Cramer had one goal and Morgan Coppini and Peyton Beachler each had one assist.

Coppini recorded the 60-minute shutout at goalie and had four ground balls.
