Hawks Defense Overwhelms NC Wesleyan

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their conference opener, Huntingdon women's lacrosse (1-3 overall) defeated the Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan (0-5 overall) 10-4 at home.

 

How it happened

 

First Quarter

  • The opening minutes of this matchup were defined by strong defense, with neither team finding any offensive rhythm. NC Wesleyan got on the board first with a goal at the 8:41 mark in quarter

  • Less than a minute later, Amara Veng responded with the Hawks first goal of the day to even the score at one

  • Similar to the opening minutes of the game, neither team was able to generate much offense to close the quarter, resulting in a 1-1 stalemate entering the second quarter

Second quarter

  • After another 6 minutes without any scoring from either side, Amara Veng scored her second goal of the day and broke the tie at the 9:25 mark to give Huntingdon a 2-1 lead

  • The Hawks defense continued to stifle the Battling Bishops, not allowing any goals to hold their 2-1 lead going into halftime

Third quarter

  • NC Wesleyan scored the first points of the half at the 13:57 mark to even the score at 2

  • Kate Hudson scored her first goal of the afternoon at the 12:11 mark to put Huntingdon back ahead 3-2

  • Still hot, Hudson scored her second goal of the day at the 9:43 mark to push the Hawks lead to 4-2

  • Peyton Beachler put in a goal less than a minute later to grow Huntingdon's lead to 5-2

  • The Hawks kept pouring it on, with Reagan Barrett scoring at the 2:24 mark to push the lead to 6-2

  • To close the quarter, Peyton Beachler put in her second goal of the period to give Huntingdon a 7-2 lead entering the final quarter of play

Fourth quarter

  • Less than a minute in, Reagan Barrett scored another goal to push the lead to 8-2

  • A goal from Kylie Clune at the 12:30 mark extended the Huntingdon lead to 9-2

  • NC Wesleyan stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 10:13 mark to cut the Huntingdon lead to 9-3

  • Not to be outdone, Kate Hudson scored her third goal of the game to push the lead back to 10-3 at the 9:36 mark

  • NC Wesleyan scored again at the 7:07 mark, but the Hawks were able to hold on to their lead and walk away with a 10-4 victory.

The Hawks return to Samford Stadium on March 23rd to take on the Greensboro Pride. Gametime is set for 11:00 AM CT.
