Hawks Shut Down The Pride Of Greensboro

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their second USA South conference matchup, Huntingdon women's lacrosse(2-3 overall, 2-0 USA South) took down the Pride of Greensboro(0-6 overall, 0-2 USA South) 9-3.

How it happened

First quarter

  • Following five scoreless minutes to begin the game, Peyton Beachler put in a goal at the 9:16 mark to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage

  • Huntingdon's strong defensive effort defined the first quarter of this matchup, not allowing Greensboro to find any offensive rhythm. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Todd saved the only shot attempt for the Pride in the quarter.

Second quarter

  • At the 13:44 mark, Kylie Clune put in a goal off an assist from Peyton Beachler to give Huntingdon a 2-0 lead

  • Remaining aggressive, Kate Hudson scored at the 9:33 mark to push Huntingdon's lead to 3-0

  • Still pouring it on, Reagan Barrett gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead entering the second half with a goal at the 7:11 mark

Third quarter

  • Greensboro got on the board at the 14:30 mark to shrink Huntingdon's lead to 4-1

  • Kate Hudson responded with her second goal of the day at the 12:00 minute mark to push the lead back to 5-1

  • With five minutes remaining in the quarter, Mackenzie Wolford scored to extend the Hawks lead to 6-1

  • Reagan Barrett scored her second goal of the day in the final minute of the third quarter to give Huntingdon a 7-1 lead entering the final period

Fourth quarter

  • Greensboro kept battling, scoring a goal at the 10:56 mark to bring the score to 7-2

  • Mia Haulbrook answered at the 3:18 mark with a goal off a pass from Kylie Clune to give Huntingdon an 8-2 advantage entering the final minutes

  • With 1:38 remaining, Amara Veng scored her first goal of the game to push the Hawks lead to 9-2

  • Greensboro scored again with 1:06 remaining, but the Hawks would hold on, taking a 9-3 victory and moving to 2-0 in conference play

The Hawks look to keep their winning streak alive on March 26th in a road contest with Oglethorpe. Gametime is scheduled for 6:00 PM CT.
